Steve Earle's gripping new album, Washington Square Serenade, is a loving tribute to his New York City neighborhood in the 1960's...the city, the movement and the music that gave him a nurturing home. "That period changed pop music," Earle says. "It made lyrics much more important. Rock & Roll could have become a subgenre of pop if it hadn't been for that literary aspect, which completely came out of a four-block area in New York City in one brief instant of time."

The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
catches the Idaho musician in the midst of a radical transformation. While last year's The Animal Years had Ritter thinking about the state of the nation, his latest offering finds him pining for Joan of Arc, Calamity Jane and Florence Nightingale, all of whom seem to be stuck together in the belly of a whale, a la Jonah. He also manages to squeeze in a few admiring words about ladies¹ underwear‹and that¹s well before Ritter, backed by drums, bass and organ and cacophony, arrives at a rollicking chorus you might be able sing along with if you¹re quick enough to get all the words. .

Leo Kottke, who has been referred to as "quite possibly the greatest guitarist on earth," will give a special performance at the historic Sheridan Opera House in July! Kottke's unique sytle of music draws on blues, jazz, and folk music influences. Growing up in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Kottke played trombone and violin before moving to the guitar. A mishap with a firecracker permanently damaged his hearing in one ear, a condition that would be exacerbated during firing practice during his service in the Navy. After receiving his discharge, Kottke attended St. Cloud State University in central Minnesota where he was known for skipping class and instead going to the auditorium and playing his guitar for hours on end! Kottke has collaborated on his records with his mentor John Fahey, as well as with Chet Atkins, Lyle Lovett, Margo Timmins, and Rickie Lee Jones. He is also a frequent guest on A Prairie Home Companion.

There he crafted his sound, a combination of his experiences among authentic songwriters from the tradition of Woody Guthrie. Though he has lived in Austin for the past twenty years, Oklahoma remains a home and an inspiration to him and his music. Jimmy's latest album, Cimarron Manifesto, came out in May 2007 and hit #1 on the Americana charts.
